Slide Set up notes:
- Give your audience a roadmap of your presentation.
- Visual aids make the presentation more interesting.
- Audience retention is significantly improved by using visual aids.
- Use visual aids to support your presentation not tell the story.
- Mention the feedback form as you close your presentation.
- It is best to err on the side of more technical than less.
- Do not read directly from your white paper or slide deck. Those materials are meant to support your presentation, not BE the presentation.
- Know your material. Know more about it than you include in your speech. Use humor, personal stories and conversational language – that way you won't easily forget what to say.
- Practice. Practice. Practice! Rehearse out loud with all equipment you plan on using. Revise as necessary. Work to control filler words; Practice, pause and breathe. Practice with a timer and allow time for the unexpected.
- Relax. Begin by addressing the audience. It buys you time and calms your nerves.
- Visualize yourself giving your talk. Imagine yourself speaking, your voice loud, clear and confident.
- Realize that people want you to succeed. Audiences want you to be interesting, stimulating, informative and entertaining.
- Don't apologize for any nervousness or problem – the audience probably never noticed it, they will once you say something.
- Concentrate on the message – not the medium. Focus your attention away from your own anxieties and concentrate on your message and your audience.
