It’s still not too late to make use of our BOND Meeting Service, an exclusive, free to use, networking service that allows registered attendees and exhibitors to search, connect and book meetings with key contacts at the show. This is a powerful matchmaking tool that can help you utilize your time at CPhI North America 2019. It’s a slam dunk… Boomshackalacka! https://cphinorthamerica.com/bond-meeting-service

New for 2019

Agency Lounge: Work with United States Government Agencies? Then do pay a visit to the newly-added Agency Lounge, which provides an opportunity for attendees and exhibitors to interact with government agencies. Chemical companies are facing ever-changing rules and regulations when it comes to producing and distributing their products globally. Making a face to face connection with resources at these government agencies can help them navigate that environment better going forward. Visit the Agency Lounge during show hours in Booth 2616, located within the InformEx Zone.

bioLIVE Theater: A brand-new event for 2019, focusing on large molecule biopharma and more specifically, on manufacturing and processing within the industry, the bioLIVE theater, hosted by our friends at BioProcess International  will be located on the Expo Hall floor throughout the first two days of the event from 10 am. to 3 pm. The theater is with a complimentary live, two-day event focusing on the State of the Biopharma Industry—composed of technical and business presentations, C-level interviews and comprehensive panel discussions across several tracks, focusing on large molecule biopharmaceuticals and more specifically, manufacturing and processing within the industry. A truly unique event within the biopharma industry, bioLIVE will unite biotechs, big pharma and service providers across the whole value chain in large molecules.

A Tale of Two Keynotes

We have two very different but equally compelling speakers in the shape of former United States Senator Jeff Flake, and Numerate Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder, Dr. Brandon Allgood, Ph.D.

Speaking Tuesday, Jeff Flake will share his views on pharma manufacturing, healthcare innovation and the direction of healthcare as he sees it under the United States’ current structure of divided government, as well as scenarios as he sees them for beyond 2020. This discussion comes at a time when healthcare is one of the key and most contentious focal areas of American politics, particularly in the run-up to the 2020 Presidential Election. “Both political parties understand the potency of healthcare as a campaign issue, but in the short term we can expect both parties to play to their base with no significant policy changes – especially in an era of divided government,” said Flake on the current state of the industry. “And in the long-term, the pharmaceutical industry will likely continue its efforts to find new wonder drugs while policymakers grapple with impatient constituents struggling with high prescription drug costs.”

Jeff Flake will speak Tuesday, April 30 from 1:30pm - 2:15pm in room E353c.

Wednesday sees Brandon Allgood of Numerate, an artificial intelligence-driven drug discovery company, present his keynote address “Why AI is the Future of the Drug Industry,” which will examine the impact that AI is having on our daily lives, and why industries – including the drug industry – are still scrambling to understand and use it. Allgood will highlight some current examples from the drug industry where AI is already making an impact and lay out where the industry needs to go, what organizations need to think about, and what can collectively be done to get there.

Allgood not only leads the research and development of Numerate’s AI platform, but also the data science group. He’s the primary technical lead on both internal and collaborative drug discovery programs and is responsible for the company’s technology vision. He has authored publications in machine learning, physics, astronomy, chemistry and biology. He is a co-founder of the Alliance for AI in Healthcare and a member of the Forbes Technology Council.

“AI is changing the way pharma performs research and conducts business, but most within pharma still don't have a good grasp of what AI is (and isn't) and how it can be applied effectively,” said Allgood. “During my keynote, I will introduce the topic in a grounded way because those organizations and people that don't come up to speed on AI will likely be left behind.”

Brandon Allgood will speak Wednesday, May 1 from 1:30pm - 2:15pm in room E353c.

Women in Leadership Continues to Evolve

Thursday morning sees the third Women in Leadership Forum to be held at CPhI North America. One of the highlights of previous shows, the Forum once again seeks to tackle key issues head-on through constructive dialogue from industry experts who will share experiences and strategies helpful in establishing equality for everyone. This year’s forum theme, ‘From Manager to Leader,’ will see leaders from the pharmaceutical industry sharing defining moments in their leadership journey, insight into strategies for success, connection to a wider community, and key pointers on sharpening leadership skills.

Once again moderated by Purpose and Engagement Catalyst and host of the Working on Purpose radio show, Alise Cortez, this year’s panel is made up of:

·       Shen Chen, Ph.D., Sr. Director, Analytical R&D, Alcami Corporation

·       Hong Cheng, Ph.D. MBA, Head of Research Strategy & Effectiveness for Global Research, Sanofi.

·       Hope Mueller, Vice President, Quality, Horizon Pharma

·       Amy Peck, CEO/Founder, EndeavorVR

·       Hugh Welsh, General Counsel, Secretary & President DSM North America

During the Women in Leadership Forum, CPhI North America will be presenting a check to Hope Mueller to accept on behalf of iBIO - Illinois Biotechnology Innovation Organization (iBIO) as part of a new partnership, through which CPhI North America is donating $10,000 to the iBIO EDUCATE Center, which delivers industry-led STEM programs to teachers and students, to support STEM programming for girls. The donation to the iBIO’s EDUCATE Center will specifically be used to fund iBIO’s Stellar Girls and STEM Girls Camp. Both programs work to introduce girls in grades three through eight to careers in STEM. Stellar Girls does this through after-school programming, and the STEM Girls Camp does this through a five-day summer camp.
