Our Commitment:

At CPhI North America, we achieve sustainable commercial success through thoughtful market focus and superior results for our customers. Being a sustainable business is central to how we run our events, how we make decisions and how we do business every day.

Our continuing evolution is fueled by insight, innovation, and collaboration. We are proud of our commitment to having a positive environmental and social impact on both the communities and industries we work within.

Our Focus:

We have identified six main areas of focus for delivering a sustainable event, these are stakeholder engagement, carbon mitigation, material use and waste management, procurement, community and charitable giving, and health and safety. For each of our events we identifying areas for improvement, set objectives, implementing change and then report on our progress in regards to these six areas. This process results in us continually driving forward the sustainability of our events.

The below sets out CPhI North America’s overarching aim and key achievements or each of our six key areas.

Carbon Mitigation

Our aim: is to reduce the carbon impact of our events by 11.4% by 2020. By doing this we reduce our contribution to climate change and its effects.

What we are doing:

  • For the second year in a row, we are powering the event with 100% renewable energy, avoiding over 200 tons in carbon emissions.
  • For the first time, we are offsetting the carbon emissions from our staff travel and are offering attendees the option to offset their own travel as part of registration.

Stakeholder Engagement

Our aim: is to engage everyone involved in our events with both what we are doing, and what they can do to increase the sustainability of our events.

What we are doing:

  • We Guide our exhibitors and visitors on how they can help improve the sustainability of the event.
  • Click here to find out what to consider while exhibiting, such as how to design your stand.

Material Use & Waste Management

Our aim: is for everything to be either reused or recycled at the end of the show, therefore reducing both the amount of resources we use and the waste we create.

What we are doing:

  • We work with our contractors to return building materials and carpeting back into inventory and then look to first donate or recycle items that can’t be used at future shows.
  • Keep an eye out for water refill stations. We are working with the venue to ensure you’re never too far from a water source to cut down on single use water bottles.

Community & Charitable Giving

Our aim: is for all of our events to have an industry relevant charity partner, so that we support our community and ensure that our events have a positive legacy.

What we are doing:

  • We invest in the development of the next generation of talent through our programming like the Women in Leadership Forum.
  • We support International Medical Corps by connecting them with organizations that can provide lifesaving health and medical services.

Procurement

Our aim: is to look at the economic, environmental and social aspect of all of our purchases, to ensure the products and services we use help us achieve a sustainable event.

What we are doing:

  • 100% of our printing is done on paper sourced from sustainably managed forests that follow FSC standards.
  • From removing plastic straws to providing healthy eating options, we worked with our caterers to make it easy for attendees to make environmentally friendly and healthy choices.
  • Our carpeting is made from recycled materials, reducing our carbon footprint and the demand for virgin materials.

Health & Safety

Our aim: is to ensure the safety of all onsite through implementing best practice health and safety processes.

What we are doing:

  • Leading the events industry in the implementation of health and safety.
